I finished the first of my new books this week, Iron & Silk by Mark Salzman. The memoir is the first he had published and recounts his two years teaching English in Hunan, China. While there he also studied martial arts under a famous master and improved his skill in calligraphy. (He did the calligraphy for the book.)

I wish I remembered where I first heard (or read) of Salzman.
I enjoyed the book. It was a good read. It’s a great story, compellingly told.
The eponymous 1990 movie (which Salzman wrote the screenplay for and starred in as himself) is in my Netflix queue. I look forward to watching it, and seeing how it compares to the text.
