Since this is the last day I’ll be posting a quote a day, I thought I’d give you a bonus — 2 for 1 today! I just purchased this book (after umpteen recommendations!), but I haven’t read it yet.
If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There’s no way around these two things that I’m aware of, no shortcut.

The scariest moment is always just before you start. After that, things can only get better.
— Stephen King, On Writing
This is Weekly Geeks day 7 of a week of a-quote-a-day. Here’s my quote from day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, and day 6.
Do you have any great and/or inspiring quotes about writing to share?

I love this book of King’s, and these quotes are great. I’m starting to see my creative writing students “get” it, so they’re starting to read more and write more often. It’s wonderful.
I’m going to have to go dig them out – I do have some, but they aren’t posted here by the computer, which is perhaps where they need to be. I love the Stephen King quotes – I own this book by him, and i like how he talks about how we have dig and dig, and keep uncovering the bones, which are our actual stories, and keep digging until we uncover the story itself. I always picture a big dinosaur skeleton and brushing, brushing, brushing the dirt away as it is excavated.
Love this book! I just wish I liked the rest of his stuff.
