and other Games with a Purpose

I’ve been glued to the computer for a bit today, having fun. Using my brain, too, and also hopefully helping improve search results for the general public.

It’s GWAP (Games With A Purpose), a site I saw mentioned in Wired about a year ago, and I’ve been waiting for it to launch ever since.

Some of the games show you images, some play you music clips and you have to describe them. One lets you pick which of two pictures you like better. Then there’s Verbosity. You and an unseen partner take turns giving clues to help the other person guess what word you’re describing. It can be a bit challenging. Maybe it will help me with my vocabulary.

To quote the site’s About page: “By playing our games, you’re training computers to solve problems for humans all over the world. Let’s take the ESP Game for example. You and a partner see the same image and are asked to type in a tag for it. When you agree on a tag, you move on and are awarded points.”

Come play!

What do you think? I'd love to know.
