Impending read-a-thon, details

The read-a-thon is nearing — it’s this weekend! I’m busy getting ready — creating a book list, planning snacks — there are so many things to do. I’m quite excited, if you couldn’t tell.

Books at home I’m looking at reading that I already have:
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith
Dakota by Kathleen Norris
Many Things Have Happened since He Died by Elizabeth Dewberry Vaughn
Virgin Time by Patricia Hampl
Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier
Pandora’s Clock by John J. Vance

A local friend had some recommendations that I didn’t get written down, and as I recall she also had a couple that sounded good that she’ll let me borrow. I need to reconnect with her and hopefully get the list down on paper and get those she owns from her.

Books I’m going to look for at the library:
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Harry Potter No. 1
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon
Maybe some P.D. James (Cover Her Face)
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Ted Dekker?
The Trouble with Tulip by Mindy Starns Clark
Blind Dates Can Be Murder by Mindy Starns Clark

Snacks
• coffee
• tea
• nachos
• maybe some vine-ripened tomatoes from the farmers’ market
• ??
• whatever my husband cooks for me 😉

I don’t anticipate making it all the way through all of these books, but I do want to have plenty on hand to choose from when the time comes. There’s still time for you to get in on the fun (you don’t have to stay up the whole 24 hours with me, either, per the rules)! Many great prizes will be given away to participants, as well.

This isn’t just about fun, though. It’s also about raising money for Reading Is Fundamental, which gives books to children. A worthy cause, yes? There are seven easy ways to donate.
