Illuminated by Matt Bronleewe

I read Illuminated by Matt Bronleewe awhile ago now — I’m still clearing out my backlog of reviews.

From the back cover: “‘This rare breed of suspense thriller combines mysterious hidden clues, secret societies, buried treasure, double agents, and the Knights Templar … if you turned National Treasure into international treasure, traded Da Vinci codes for Gutenberg Bibles, married it to Indiana Jones, and added the pacing of 24 you’d be in the neighborhood of Illuminated … on a scale of one to 10, this one goes to 11.’ — Aspiring Retail Magazine

The book follows August Adams, an archaeobibliologist — which is the kind of job I dream of — and his family as they race to unravel a centuries old mystery that involved (maybe it still does?) Church and State and people of power.

While I found that praise a bit over the top, it wasn’t terribly far off the mark.

What a fun book. A quick, thrilling read. One of the best of its kind I’ve found, certainly in a long time.

Bronleewe is a songwriter and producer in Nashville; he was a founding member of Jars of Clay.

I was excited when, at Bronleewe’s website, I discovered that a sequel, House of Wolves, was released in August. I look forward to reading it.

A soundtrack for the book is available as a free download at the author’s website.

  1. This sounds like a fun book! I haven’t heard about it before, but I will add it to my list of books to read when I have a little spare time.

  2. Hope you enjoy it, whenever you get to it! 🙂

  3. Sounds like a fun book to read…however, I wonder how well a non-church historian or Bible scholar can convince the audience. Have you ever read A Skeleton in God’s Closet ?

  4. Sounds exciting. I’ll have to look for it. Anything about the Knights Templar grabs my attention.

  5. I have, DebD — and this is much better.

  6. Ooh, now I’m intrigued. 🙂

    Thanks.
