Booking Through Thursday: Favorites

btt2I don’t like picking favorites. Of anything. Sometimes, I’ve found, this is detrimental. Like when we get candy in our Christmas stockings, and everyone gets something they really like (and are known to like, I guess), but I get something I’ve never even heard of, but wasn’t really interested in. I’m trying to do better, I really am!

This week’s Booking Through Thursday poses the following questions:

1. Do you have a favorite author?
No. I like lots of authors, and I don’t have one favorite. I’m really, really liking Kathleen Norris at the moment, though. Others who come to mind at the moment: Dorothy Sayers and Jacqueline Winspear.

2. Have you read everything he or she has written?
Again, the answer is no. I’ve just finished my first encounter with Norris (although I’ve started the second, and a third graces my TBR pile). I’ve read nearly all of Sayers’ Peter Wimsey books (well, all that I could get at the library; I think that’s not quite actually all), but I haven’t read her nonfiction, or her translation of Dante, etc., yet.) And I’ve only read the first Maisie Dobbs book — I have the third, but I’m waiting for the second, to be able to read the series in order.

3. Did you LIKE everything?
Of the three authors listed above, yes, I’ve liked everything I’ve read.

4. How about a least favorite author?
Ooh, that’s tougher than picking an actual favorite! No, at the moment I can’t think of one author I dislike more than others.

5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?
Sure, there have been a few of these. Bronte, but I haven’t tried (either of them) in years now. Winton, at least for now.

What about you?

  1. I love Dorothy Sayers, too – I keep meaning to go back and read the one or two Lord Peter books I’ve neglected. He’s one of my favorite sleuths.

  2. I can’t pick favorites either 🙂 There’s simply too many! I love the Maisie Dobbs series. I’ve only read one Dorothy Sayers, but I enjoyed it ~ need to go back for more.

Have you read any of Alexander McCall Smith’s Sunday Philosophy Club series? I love those too.

  3. Have you read Cloister Walk? I remember really loving it (probably 10 years ago by now).

  4. Becca: No, I haven’t ready any of McCall Smith’s Sunday Philosophy Club books, but they sound good. Actually, I’ve only read one McCall Smith, earlier this year, and I need to get back to his work.

Beth: Cloister Walk is the one that’s in my TBR stack! I’m looking forward to it.

  5. Bronte is not my favorite either. Please visit to see my answers.

What do you think? I'd love to know.
