Dear Rene Gutteridge

Rene Gutteridge Week 2011, WordLily.com

Dear Rene,

I’ve been a big fan of your books since I first picked up Boo on the recommendation of a trusted reading friend in 2008. (Has it really been less than 2.5 years? Seems longer, in a good way.) I’ve now read 11 of your at-present 17 titles, and I’m not planning to quit!

Somehow I feel more connected to you, as well, because you live in Oklahoma. Not that I love Oklahoma, particularly, but I have lived there (my parents still do). I feel particularly connected to you and all authors from the central United States, because that’s where my roots are. To some extent, we have a shared life experience, in this. I feel this kinship, this connection, but that doesn’t mean people from outside the central United States can’t connect to your books — not at all!

While I have to admit I first fell in love with your comedy novels — Scoop is my favorite — I love that you write in multiple genres. Actually, I think excelling in more than one style or type of book is a sign of a skilled writer. Possession, your latest, is certainly one of your best. Maybe the reason I love the lighter ones is simply because I read them first?

More than that, I love that you write in more than one genre because it’s evidence that you’re growing as a writer, which is something I always hope for.

These are just a few of the reasons why I’m a fan and why I decided to have a Rene Gutteridge Week. I’ve got reviews, a couple guest posts, giveaways, and even an interview with you, (Thanks!) so I think it’ll be good.

Looking forward to more,
hannah

Wait! Don’t go away yet! Thanks to Tyndale, I have three copies of Gutteridge’s latest, Possession [review later today], to give away this week. And one of those giveaways is now! 1. I love Rene Gutteridge too! I look forward to reading your posts this week!

  2. That’s a lot of backlist in that period of time! I don’t think I’ve read that much backlist of any author since book blogging. In any case, enter me! 🙂

  3. now that’s fan letter to be treasured!

  4. I too love all her books. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of her latest book.

  5. Rene Gutteridge is my favorite author. The first book I read was My Life as a Doormat. I thought the title was a description of my lie at that point. I love to read but can’t stand the smut in everything written for women. I laughed so hard reading the first book I started reading Rene’s other books and they kept me well entertained for a year. I often recommend Rene’s books to friends who are looking the same qualities as myself. I have donated nearly all my books to my church’s library. I want others to be able to enjoy Rene Gutteridge books, also.

  6. She is definitely one of those authors that once you’ve read one book you want to collect and devour everything she’s written. What a fun blog.

  7. Rene is definitely a great author and a wonderful person. Haven’t read Posession yet so please enter me cuz I’m an OKIE too and I love reading Rene’s books.

  8. What an awesome letter! I totally agree, it takes special talent to write in all genres and Rene certainly has that talent. She is as sweet as you would imagine, and adorable too.
After I read Rene’s books, I send them to a dear friend who is a missionary in the PacRim. How can I not share the fun? 😉

  9. Have not read any of Rene’s books, but after reading your blog, I’m anxious to read some of these books. Thanks Hannah for piquing my interest!

  10. I love Rene’s books. I think my favorites are Boo Hiss – I love the scene with the two-headed snake loose in the car – and Skid. (You can’t go wrong with a pig, convict, and undead woman on an airplane!) Seriously, I don’t know how she dreams these scenarios up! She’s the only author that consistently makes me laugh. So keep ’em coming, Rene!

  11. Please enter me. Not that I have time to read, but if I win I will take it as a sign that I deserve some ME time.

  12. I know I’ve seen this author around and I thought I had read at least one of her books, but maybe not. I’ll enjoy your highlight week about her and would love to be entered in the contest.

  13. Please enter me in the contest. I think I’ve read every one of her books! (except this one, of course)

  14. I Love Rene to, I consider myself very fortunate because for 12 years I got to be a lead actor in many of her sketches and plays. It was so much fun. I to have read many of her books and I will never forget how hard I laughed when reading Troubled Waters, the part that was so funny to me was when the daughter was trying to teach her mom how to use the computer. Oh I still laugh just thinking about it.

  15. I also became a fan with the Boo series. I’m currently reading Ghost Writer. I just started it and it has already captured me! Can’t wait to read more of Rene’s work!

  16. How fun that you are doing a Rene Gutteridge week! She met with my book club after we read the Boo books. She is a very nice lady. I’ve since read several of her other books. I also like the way she switches genres. A similarity in the books I’ve read is that there is always at least one “quirky” character.
Thanks for giving away copies of “Possession.” I’d love to win!

  17. Rene is a great writer and a great lady. I met her at a writers conference about 11 years ago. Our families have been friends ever since. I have been her technical adviser on most of her suspense projects since then. She is a joy to work with. I hope it continues for years to come. My favorite is still “Ghost Writer.”

  18. I have never read any of Rene’s books. They sound like they are great. I am going to add them to my list. I would love to win her new book to start me out!

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

  19. I have nor read this author. You however have convinced me that this author has impressed you and now makes me curious. Please enter me 🙂

  20. Reading Rene’s books are an adventure. Boo was so quirky and fun. I have introduced it to several Christian fiction readers who have loved it as well. Would love to win a copy of Possessions!
